Single Balloon Deep Enteroscopy

• Single Balloon Deep Enteroscopy: The Olympus Single Balloon system is used with high success in reaching desired deep location in the distal small bowel in  most cases. Depending on estimated location based on small bowel capsule transit time, either an antegrade or retrograde approach is pursued first. Retrograde approach via colonoscopy and ileal intubation is technically challenging and usually pursued if the small bowel transit time suggests the distal third of small bowel location of abnormality or subsequently if antegrade approach did not reach location for tissue acquisition bleeding treatment. Additionally, the technique and expertise are used to facilitate ERCP in surgically altered anatomy from previous gastric bypass or other Roux en Y surgical reconstruction.
